Week at Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, Bahamas

We had no idea what to expect of Atlantis Paradise Island Resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas.  This was my first time visiting Bahamas as well as my first Caribbean resort.  I was lucky enough that Chris had been to Atlantis multiple times so I had my own personal tour guide to this beautiful resort!  Atlantis Paradise Island Resort  is home to over 50,000 sea creatures living in 11 million gallons of water.

The Rooms

LNA_5020 2
We checked in at The Royal Towers at Atlantis, one of nearly ten Atlantis Paradise Island Resort properties.  The Royal Towers is famous for their “Bridge Suite” and offers over 1,200 rooms between the two towers.  We were booked into a Regal Suite which featured flat screen tvs, free wi-fi, soaking tubs, large master bathroom with twin sinks, 2 walk-in closets, half guest bathroom and two balconies.
The Royal Towers is located in the middle of the resort which gives you great accessibility to everything Atlantis has to offer including easy access to the waterpark, beach, restaurants, and the Atlantis Marina.

The Food

Atlantis features 21 restaurants and 19 bars and lounges offering everything from fine dining to grab and go options.  There is something for every dining option and you will not be left disappointed.

Marina Pizzeria
This pizzeria is located in the Marina village and is definitely a crowd pleaser.  The variety of pizza and pasta available there is something for everyone.  They are open for both lunch and dinner and you never have to wait very long for your custom made pizza is cooked right in front of you.  It is cheaper to buy a full pizza for two than to buy individual slices.  The is tons of seating outside to enjoy the great weather and look at all the boats anchored there.
Chef Todd English brings his famed Olives restaurant to its first caribbean venue.  Located in the casino.  The restaurant is a high casual dining experience featuring Mediterranean cuisine as well as coastal dishes.  The wood-burning thing-crust flatbread pizzas are to die for.  Olives is not a restaurant to be missed!
Seafire Steakhouse
Seafire Steakhouse probably had to be my favourite restaurant at Atlantis.  This steakhouse will not leave you disappointed with your meat.  Cooking your exact order the steak offers rich, smoked, seared or grilled flavours that will leave you wanting more.  The atmosphere was perfect starting with a walk through the Marina Village to access the space, Seafire knows how to host a great dinner.
Murray’s Deli
We got a change to go to Murray’s Deli for breakfast one morning and was not disappointed.  This 1950’s New-York style restaurant offers sit down meals as well as a quick to go section for those in a hurry.  Located in the Marina Village this restaurant offers reasonably priced meals and is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
 Things to Do
Atlantis has a ton of activities to offer including its famous Aquaventure waterpark, fitness centre, tennis courts, movie theatre, spa and shopping.
The Aquaventure Waterpark, is a 141-acre playground for adults with over 12 high speed waterslides, a mile-long river with wave surges and rapids, 20 swimming areas and 11 different swimming pools.  The waterslides offer different levels of extreme for thrill seekers with its famous The Leap of Faith a 60 foot almost-vertical drop from the top of the iconic Mayan Temple that sends you plunging into the shark tank.

Other great spots to visit are Predator Lagoon where you will find hammerhead sharks, sawfish and barracuda among many other species.  The Dig is the only place in the world where you can explore the lost city of Atlantis through tunnels and various passageways of the lost city you can find over 100 venomous Indo-Pacific Ocean Lionfish, 500 piranahs, jellfish, Moray Eels, Stingy rays and a variety of sharks.  The Dig has something for all ages and is not to be missed.  The best time to do any exploring in the Dig or Predator Lagoon is first thing in the morning you will often find yourself alone with the sea creatures.
Offsite Activities
LNA_5404 2
We travelled offsite for a day with Island World Adventures on a speedboat trip to the Exumas.  The Exumas, are a collection of 360 Islands and Cays steeped in history and has some of the best coastlines and sand bars in the area.  This 8 hour day trip was a highlight of our time in the Bahamas.  The Exumas are largely an untouched area of the world that boasts beautiful turquoise waters, a vast array of beautiful tropical fish, dolphins and sharks.
Our day started with an hour boat ride to our first Cay, Leaf Cay, where we stopped to visit the native, endangered Exuma Rock Ignaua.  Here you can feed the native rock iguanas grapes and get up close with them.
LNA_5228 2LNA_5263 2LNA_5247 2
The next stop is to a pristine, isolated sandbar that is perfect for exploring, shell collecting and photos.  The group gets a chance to explore this sandbar which the Captain and his first mate travel to Saddleback Cay to prepare the groups lunch.  Lunch consists of chicken and fish and an array of options that compliment the local meat.  After lunch, the group gets the opportunity to feed the resident sharks and barracudas that await their daily lunch time feeding of scraps!
LNA_5369 2Screen Shot 2016-07-09 at 10.44.20 PM
The last stop of the day before the boat heads back to Nassau is snorkelling on one of the many reefs where you get to experience the tropical fish and conchs.  After sometime to explore the crystal clear waters you head back towards Nassau as the sun begins to set.  This offsite excursion was a perfect touch to the week giving us a taste of what the Exumas have to offer.
